Polyoxymethylene (POM), also known as polyacetal, is a polymer that has mainly an industrial application because of its hardness. The substance is also known under the DuPont brand name Delrin, developed by DuPont. DuPont produces Delrin in Dordrecht.
The substance is often used for parts in machines as a replacement for metal. The advantage is that it does not oxidize and no oil or ball bearings are required for smooth mechanical mobility. POM contains additives to make the material resistant to acids and oxidation.
The material is also widely used, from zippers and fuel tanks to watches and guitar picks.
