Silicone is an elastomer that is widely used in the food industry. The high temperature resistance (from -55°C to 210°C) and the good resistance to chemicals make it an ideal material for this.
MVQ is a red / orange coloured methyl silicone rubber, often simply referred to as silicone. It is resistant to:
- Mineral oils and fats
- Water (up to 100°C)
- Pneumatic fluids
- Saline solution
Nevertheless, this material is not often used, because the mechanical properties are not ideal. This material has a low tensile strength and is poorly resistant to abrasive media and tears relatively quickly. MVQ is therefore often used for stationary parts.
