What is a rotor?
The definition of a rotor is actually quite broad. The term refers to a rotating part of a structure or machine. At Qseals, we distinguish between rubber bellows, multi-spring and metal bellows rotor seals. A rotor is designed to create an effect by rotating around an axis, often a particular function or action. The rotating part of a motor is therefore also called the rotor, but the blades of a helicopter are called rotors too. Most helicopters have a main rotor and a tail rotor, although there are exceptions. You will also find a rotor in electric motors and petrol engines; in the latter as part of the distributor.
